I have purchased an astonishing number of books in my life. When I met my friend Stan Rummel in Claremont in 1974 and saw his library, I was immediately hooked. I began spending virtually all my expendable income on books. The difficulty was trudging all these books around with me from apartment to apartment, house to house, state to state.
Several years ago I began downsizing by sorting my library and selling off large portions of it to Jon Stock’s Windows Booksellers. One of the things that this sorting process highlighted for me was that I carried around a lot of books that I would never use again. I realized that these tools that were useful at one time were no longer. The result was that I had more space to buy new books that I would use on current projects. It is liberating.
